You've got it backwards. The show made no sense because you hated it. Not everyone likes a story they have to ponder for more than five minutes to understand, I get it. NGE is the only thing I've ever experienced that got better the more I watched it, and tried to understand it.

It especially helps if you realize that it isn't half as religious as it appears to be at first glance.
